Kody Brown, who is married to Robyn Brown but previously had four wives, talks about a sad memory. He was only six years old at the time, but was “heartbroken” when Sonny and Cher divorced.
You all remember what you were doing when Sonny and the iconic Cher broke up, right? Well, Kody Brown certainly does. He was devastated when at the young age of six he found out that his favorite couple had divorced.
Kody Brown ‘heartbroken’ at age six
Kody Brown found it difficult to accept the breakup of his favorite celebrity couple, Sonny and Cher. They announced their divorce when he was just six years old, leaving him “heartbroken.”
While speaking to his ex-wife, Meri Brown, he admitted that he cried over their “devastating” separation and said, “It scared me. I thought divorce is the greatest evil, you know, it’s something that saddens me.”
Sonny Bono and Cher divorced in 1975 after more than a decade together as a couple. “At six and seven, I wasn’t aware that the idea, the concept of divorce, was real,” Kody said in a confessional.
He added: “Sonny and Cher’s divorce is devastating. Does that really happen? This isn’t supposed to be part of the story I’m writing about myself. You know what I mean?”
“And each one is their story. You are the author of your story. “My story is taking a turn,” Brown continued, hinting that he regretted the collapse of his plural family and the end of his marriages.
Three of his wives abandoned him
Kody had four wives when he first joined Sister Wives. He is legally married to Robyn Brown, his only remaining wife since 2010, but was previously married to Christine, Janelle and Meri Brown.
Robyn was the first new wife to join the family in 16 years. Christine Brown was the first to walk, in November 2021, followed by Janelle, who decided to leave just over a year later, in December 2022.
Meri Brown’s marriage was known to be the most complicated of all, and has been since the beginning of the show. It had previously been called a “non-sexual relationship” instead of a normal marriage.
She left Kody in January 2023. All four women involved with Kody are mothers, and he shares 18 children between them. So far, Christine is the only one who has moved on with her husband David Woolley.
