Michel Crónicas, a Cuban YouTuber based in Mexico, has generated a great debate on social networks after publishing a video in which he describes himself as a “millionaire” for the simple fact of having access to basic services and living in freedom.

In less than 24 hours, his video accumulated more than a million views on TikTok, provoking an avalanche of reactions that highlight the marked differences between life in Mexico and the situation of shortages and restrictions that Cuba faces.

“I am a millionaire Cuban living in Mexico,” Michel begins by saying, while listing what, for Mexicans, is everyday, but which in Cuba represents an unattainable luxury.

With a mixture of amazement and relief, he mentions having 24-hour electricity, hot and purified water, yogurt, bread and butter, fresh fruits and a cup of coffee with milk every morning.

However, what stands out most is freedom. “The most important thing I have in Mexico is my freedom, and I know that if I work hard I can achieve each of my goals,” Michel says in his message, highlighting what he considers his most valuable possession.

The publication generated thousands of comments from users who, between empathy and concern, reacted to the contrast between both realities. One wrote: “Enjoy it while you can, because Mexico is on its way to being a Cuba,” suggesting that the country could face the same difficulties as the island in the future.

Other users were more optimistic and responded that, although the situation in Mexico is complex, “6 years ago they said that we were going to be like Cuba or Venezuela, but we are stronger than ever.”

The reflection of Michel, who has shared on several occasions his father’s reaction when discovering life in Mexico, goes beyond basic services.

In his message he sends a call about the current situation in his homeland: “Things in Cuba have to change, Cubans need freedom to be able to fulfill each of their dreams,” he commented.

In his opinion, this access to freedom and basic resources is what allows people to fully develop and chart their own path.
