Fans are in love with Johnny Rolfe from Life Below Zero and his dog Java. Johnny confirms he will return to the original show following the cancellation of Life Below Zero: Next Generation.
October of this year has brought us back to the frozen tundras of Alaska, and to those bold enough to inhabit them, in Life Below Zero. The show features a collection of cast members who talk about their daily struggles and the techniques they employ to survive in this frigid, sub-zero temperature environment. One of the cast members who has stolen the hearts of the nation is Johnny Rolfe, who along with his dog Java, uses ancient techniques to survive.
Hunting is “a way of life” for Johnny Rolfe
Johnny Rolfe first joined Life Below Zero: Next Generation in 2017 as a refreshing addition to the show’s lineup. It maintains the perfect balance between real-world honesty combined with a genuine knowledge of the craft and ancient hunting techniques.
Johnny and Java, his ever-loyal companion, live in a small log cabin in the Alaskan countryside. Officially “off the grid,” the cabin lacks virtually all modern amenities.
This isn’t just for the cameras, Johnny fervently defends the lifestyle even when the cameras aren’t rolling. On Facebook he refers to his way of life as “tradition” and keeps him “connected to the cycle of life and death and to the earth and nature.”
Johnny meets his and Java’s every need through ethical hunting methods, using the whole animal for a multitude of purposes around his home. On Instagram he described hunting as “a way of life” that has “a purpose and beyond.”
When talking about one of his regular hunts, caribou, he said: “Caribou give me life, I owe it to them.”
‘I’m here for the Java photos’
After a hiatus from social media, since November 2023, Johnny returns to give fans an insight into his fascinating life. However, what fans want to see most are those big, beautiful brown eyes that belong to Java.
Described by Johnny: “The best companion in the mountains and in nature is the girl from Java. Definitely. “It seems like she likes watching glaciers as much as I do.”
This loyal girl appears in all of her most recent Instagram posts, absolutely loving her offline life as much as her teacher. Fans are absolutely in love.
The comments section is flooded with love and well wishes for their furry friend: “Every photo of Java makes me smile. I felt very heartbroken when she became ill a few years ago. I cried when he recovered. Such a loyal companion. Stay safe.”
“I’m here for the Java photos,” another fan commented.
Fans are excited to see Java, I mean Johnny, in the upcoming National Geographic series. Johnny confirms his transfer from Next Gen. to the original Life Before Zero lineup in the comments section.
“Next generation. It’s already done, but they switched me to the old school LBZ so you can see me and Java there.” Johnny responded to a commenter, confirming the cancellation of season 8, but assuring fans that he will return.
