Mexico will not be a partner country of the 45th International Tourism Fair (Fitur), which will be held from January 22 to 26, 2025 in Madrid, despite the fact that after the previous edition it was announced that it will be the protagonist of the next edition of one of the main tourism fairs in the world.

“The Ministry of Tourism of Mexico has expressed its interest in occupying the position of partner country in the year 2026,” said this Friday Ifema, the official organization that organizes the fairs in Madrid and that hosts Fitur every year.

However, in the statement made public by Ifema Madrid it does not expressly say that the Latin American country has renounced being one in this edition and it did not provide more details about this decision.

Sources from the organization indicated this Friday to EFE that the country that will replace Mexico as the guest protagonist of the fair in the next edition is not yet known and that work is being done on it.

However, the organization insists on making it clear that the 2025 edition will have a special presence from Mexico in the Americas pavilion, which will display the largest exhibition space in its history, with “a relevant staging of the tourist offer of the country”.

This announcement takes place amid the deterioration of diplomatic relations between Spain and Mexico after this country did not invite King Felipe VI to the inauguration of its new president, Claudia Sheinbaum.

Ifema expects Fitur 2025 to set a new record with the participation of more than 900 companies from 152 countries, 153 thousand visitors, of which more than 50% will be professionals in the sector, and more than 6 thousand specialized media from around the world . .
