The aggressor’s mother was also complicit in the abuse. She allegedly supplied drugs to Montserrat to keep her sedated and prevent her from trying to escape. Neighbors in the building noticed that the young woman never went out alone and always seemed to be in a strange state, raising concerns about her well-being.
After a year of abuse and beatings, the young woman was murdered in September 2023. Her case went viral because security cameras captured the family lowering the young woman’s inert body down the stairs of the building where they lived.
The wait for a sentence for those responsible continues to generate indignation among feminist groups and basic society, which cries out for justice for Montserrat and for all the women who have suffered abuse in silence.
